As a parent I know that reading to my kids is one of the most important things that I can do to improve their early education. In today’s world our children will either need to develop a love of reading at an early age, or face the prospect of falling behind in school and in life.

In general, I try to read to my kids every single day, but there are some days when I just simply can’t. I either have to work too late, am completely stressed out, or have some other obligation.

I would feel really bad about this, of course, since it’s also a great bonding experience as well as a teaching experience. Now it’s a little easier sinced I have discovered all the audio books for children that are available. This way I know that even if I miss one day, my kids still have someone to read to them.

Finding suitable audio books for kids is a little bit easier than you might have imagined. Although not every classic kid’s book is also available as an audio book, many of the best ones are.

You can find CD and MP3 books for children on every subject and for every age group. You can find short stories books, nonfiction books, and chapter books all readily available.

There are even audio books for download on the Internet, from Amazon.com or Booksfree.com or others, just in case you don’t live near to an audio book store.

When you are talking about audio books for kids, the reader is every bit as important as the content, or even more so. The wrong reader and, even if it is the best kid’s book there is, your kid will not enjoy it.

As a matter of fact, you should probably preview any children’s audios before your kids hear them. For example: sometimes the readers read too fast, which is frustrating for the kids

Some children are scared by readers with very deep voices, or people who talk too loud or too sharply. In general, the quality of the audio children’s books is pretty high, but it still always pays to make sure.

You will also want to make sure the content of the audio book is suitable for your kids. What’s just fine for one set of parents might not be for another set. A good preview will help avoid surprises.

My son loves his audio books so much that he listens to them on his own, even when I am there. Although he still loves having his dad read to him, the audio book (on CD) is a close second. I don’t mind – as long as he develops a love of reading I am happy for him.
