Nowadays, there is all manner of funny doormats that greet people. Some demand that the reader has their sense of humor intact. There are subtle, brash, insulting and clever captions available on the mats.

Mats for pet owners are very popular, especially in homes where dogs or cats rule the roost. Sentiments such as Cat is God, The Cat and Its Housekeeping Staff Reside Here and Don’t Make Me Come Out There (signed by the dog) show who is in charge. Some funny doormats have the simple message, Wipe Your Paws. Another dog authored one begins a long plea with the words, My Captors Continue to Torment Me etc.

Alcohol is another favorite theme, the house owners declaring an exaggerated, hopefully, need for beer or wine. Hence the question, got beer? That’s before anyone has got past the door. Another mat declares We Serve Only the Finest Californian Wines, Did You Bring Any?

Hobbies are another subject, mostly involving playing golf or going fishing. A golf widow or widower will buy A Golfer and a Normal Person Live Here or Working Is For People Who Don’t Golf. Card sharps can put out a mat with a picture of playing cards on poker night to say Game Underway-Do Not Disturb.

Funny doormats keep up with the times and there is one for the latest craze for sudoku. A picture of a sudoko grid carries the caption, While You Wait. Parents also can identify with certain messages on mats. One simply says Mom’s Fast Food. Another says Ring Bell, Win A Kid.

For people who are fed up with door to door salespeople and the like, there is We Love Our Vacuum, We’ve Found God and We Gave at the Office-Now Please Go Away. Funny doormats are not always polite, as in All Welcome Except You, Did You Remember to Wipe, Go Away and stop Thief.

Law enforcement is given short thrift with Come Back With a Warrant. Burglars are shown a helping hand with Key Hidden Here, accompanied by an arrow pointing to behind the mat. The simplest, yet cleverest caption has to be Hi, I’m Mat. Perhaps one day, someone will open up a museum of funny doormats. This will be amusing and also give a snapshot of out times for future generations.

Many kids want a dog very badly, but in many cases it’s simply out of the question for a number of reasons. One of them being finding the right one. Of course, there are plenty of places to get dogs, but I would prefer to rescue one that has lost their home, as long as they are a good fit for our family.

Many children ask for dogs as pets, and if you are in this situation, you might want to consider rescuing one yourself. When considering dogs, however, there are some things you should think about in regards to choosing the right one.

You have to think about the ages of your children when you adopt a dog. Not all breeds do well with children, and you can’t always go by breed anyway. Some Golden Retrievers aren’t as nice as their reputation, for example, while some Pit Bulls are as nice as any Lab or Retriever.

What is great about going to an animal shelter when you want to adopt a dog, or a cat for that matter, is that they have already figured out what families each dog is suited for. That means they can tell you which one will do well with your children and which ones might not have the temperament to deal with the excessive amounts of love that children sometimes like to give.

Another great thing about opting to adopt a dog from a shelter is that they have been seen by a veterinarian, and they should be up to date on shots and will have been spayed or neutered. You do have to pay for a dog you get from such a place, but the cost covers those things, and you usually pay less than if you were to get those things done on your own. If the dog has an illness, they already know about it, and they will never knowingly give you a pet that is sick and might die soon.

You may find that you have to go through a few things before they allow you to adopt a dog, but they do that to make sure you have the right home and circumstances to care for the pet properly. They may ask you all types of questions, and will want to know about children, other pets, and where you live. They may want to know if you plan to keep the dog inside, and other information that protects the dogs from the wrong families. It might seem like a lot to go through to adopt a dog, but when you do, you know you are getting a great pet that matches your lifestyle.

They may also ask you about getting training for your dog and what your plans for that happen to be. You can either sign up for a dog training course, which you should be able to find near your home, or you can do it yourself and pick up a book on dog training that will take you step by step through everything you need to know.

Who wants to slave away in the kitchen for hours upon hours just to produce a decent meal? No one wants to do that. In fact, most individuals who are responsible for making the family meals prefer to spend less than one hour in the kitchen.

That one hour includes all the preparation time, cooking and cleaning up. Is it possible to make a great meal and have the kitchen spotlessly clean in that amount of time? Yes, it is absolutely possible.

If you spend any time listening to Rachel Ray and her cooking ideas and recipes, you may be familiar with her 30 minute meals and how appetizing they can be. The entire idea behind her 30 minute meals is, of course, to be in and out of the kitchen in no time at all.

Her 30 minute meal recipes and ideas are not only fast, but incredibly delicious as well. If you’re in the mood for soup, it can be done super fast. If you’re craving more of a satisfying meal such as chicken or lamb, that can be made in only 30 minutes as well.

Here’s a very good hint: glance over the recipe before you attempt to make it in 30 minutes or less, or even for more involved meals. If you’re not familiar with all of the ingredients and steps that need to be followed, I can guarantee that your 30 minute meals will turn into an hour or more. If you spend 5 minutes reading over the recipe before you even step foot into your kitchen, you will find that the 30 minute meals will be stress-free and a huge hit with your family.

Contrary to what many people may believe, there are not simply a limited amount of recipes that can be successfully made within 30 minutes. There are, in fact, enough of 30 minute recipes available that your family will be happy for weeks without ever eating the same meal twice.

Rachel Ray isn’t the only person who has 30 minute meal recipes for you. There are others that can be found. Rachel Ray fans may not want to even think about a recipe that wasn’t suggested by the cooking genius. That’s your choice. Afterall, they’re your tastebuds.

Speaking of tastebuds, if you browse the cookbooks in your local bookstore you will notice that some of them have a number of quick and easy meals of all sorts, exotic and otherwise. For the really exotic you should check out the World of Warcraft Cookbook, which take recipes from inside that game and brings them into the real world of your own kitchen. Hard to get more exotic that that! And many of the recipes in that book are also quick and easy.

Your family will be happy with all of the new meals that you’re creating and your kids and gamer friends will love the Warcraft recipes. You will be spending less time in the kitchen and more time with your family. You really can’t go wrong with having a recipe that can be created and brought to perfection within 30 minutes.

Hollywood celebrities and business tycoons are increasingly signing up for a certain type of security. This trend was reflected recently in the 2002 movie, Panic Room, starring Jodie Foster, Forest Whitaker, Dwight Yoakam and Jared Leto.

The story centers on the plight of Meg (Jodie Foster) and her twelve year old daughter Sarah, who escape to their safe room when three men break into their home in Manhattan. The room has a thick steel door and the men try different ways to get into the room. The problem is that the valuable item that they are after is in the panic room itself. It’s difficult to tell whether the film would encourage or discourage people from having such a room.

It’s probably a comfort, psychologically speaking, for the owners of houses with a panic room. It may just advertise the fact that you have really got something worth stealing! Perhaps in the future, they will be standard issue with all new buildings as we become more afraid of the outside world and of every stranger we encounter. Only governments previously had bunkers to dive into. We only need a nuclear fall out shelter as well, to make us feel really safe.

You can build your own, you know. Just hop over to a site like SafeRoom.com. I suppose if you’ve had people break into your house, more than once, it might be a pretty good idea. Better than a couple of Rottweilers, though?

Have you ever watched the local news and seen an Amber alert? Such as for the 4 year old child abducted inside a shopping mall? Police did not know the whereabouts of the child immediately, and they hadn’t a clue who snatched him.

This is, without a doubt, a parent’s most awful nightmare come true. I couldn’t help but wonder where the child was and if the parent was watching him closely.
When I’m out and about I spot so many parents who’re barely keeping an eye on their tiny children. It irks me to death, but what are you going to do about it? Hopefully they’ll get a clue before something awful happens. It only takes a second for a kid to be abducted.

Now, on the bright side, there are certain measures you can take to ensure this will NOT happen to your child.

I’ll bet you’ve seen a few children out in public wearing leashes. This is fairly common nowadays. It’s a simple, yet effective, way to keep toddlers at you side in public places.

They can prance about on their own, bump into things, trip people, but they’re restricted from actually going anywhere. The leash is only a few feet long and ensures that the child stays close by. It’s much safer than letting your 2 or 3 year old run about on their own.

Then there is the baby alarm. This is a simple gadget that attaches to their clothing. You keep the receiver so that you can press the alarm button at any time. This will cause the device on child to sound and you can pinpoint their location. Pretty nifty indeed.

Now, the new-age child safety devices have been taken to a whole new level with gps child locator watches. This handy device simply straps onto your child like a wrist watch, and then you can proceed to monitor their whereabouts with your personal computer.

Now that is SWEET! It’s similar to a vehicle tracking device. So basically if your child was abducted, the police could instantly pinpoint the child’s location. This would make retrieval much more likely.

One problem these devices have, unfortunately, is a short battery life. They’re also bulky, heavy, and not reliable. This makes it a little hard to find them, even online. If you find one you’ll probably pay $300 to $400.

Another question with the gps child locator is where to wear it. Should the child wear the gps child locator on his/her wrist, like a regular watch? Or, should it be worn under clothing somehow, so that an abductor could not immediately spot it and remove the device?

As a parent I know that reading to my kids is one of the most important things that I can do to improve their early education. In today’s world our children will either need to develop a love of reading at an early age, or face the prospect of falling behind in school and in life.

In general, I try to read to my kids every single day, but there are some days when I just simply can’t. I either have to work too late, am completely stressed out, or have some other obligation.

I would feel really bad about this, of course, since it’s also a great bonding experience as well as a teaching experience. Now it’s a little easier sinced I have discovered all the audio books for children that are available. This way I know that even if I miss one day, my kids still have someone to read to them.

Finding suitable audio books for kids is a little bit easier than you might have imagined. Although not every classic kid’s book is also available as an audio book, many of the best ones are.

You can find CD and MP3 books for children on every subject and for every age group. You can find short stories books, nonfiction books, and chapter books all readily available.

There are even audio books for download on the Internet, from Amazon.com or Booksfree.com or others, just in case you don’t live near to an audio book store.

When you are talking about audio books for kids, the reader is every bit as important as the content, or even more so. The wrong reader and, even if it is the best kid’s book there is, your kid will not enjoy it.

As a matter of fact, you should probably preview any children’s audios before your kids hear them. For example: sometimes the readers read too fast, which is frustrating for the kids

Some children are scared by readers with very deep voices, or people who talk too loud or too sharply. In general, the quality of the audio children’s books is pretty high, but it still always pays to make sure.

You will also want to make sure the content of the audio book is suitable for your kids. What’s just fine for one set of parents might not be for another set. A good preview will help avoid surprises.

My son loves his audio books so much that he listens to them on his own, even when I am there. Although he still loves having his dad read to him, the audio book (on CD) is a close second. I don’t mind – as long as he develops a love of reading I am happy for him.

Chocolate covered strawberries are the ideal romantic dessert, particularly for Valentine’s Day, but they’re also good any time of year. Many chocolate shops and candy makers offer chocolate covered strawberries on a full time basis, and other shops offer them as a holiday item only.

Chocolate covered strawberries are a delicious and light treat, suitable for both those looking for a luxurious dessert, and also those who prefer lighter fare.

Chocolate covered strawberries are not only aesthetically very pretty, but are also a healthy treat any time of year. A good chocolate shop will take the finest quality berries and dip them in good, rich chocolate. Many candy shops offer both milk chocolate covered strawberries and dark chocolate covered strawberries, so consider trying both!

Some retailers also decorate the chocolate covered strawberries with white chocolate, add a few nuts, a little of this, some of that and make a perfect presentation.

If you lack a local candy shop that makes chocolate covered strawberries, and do not want to take on the task of making your own, a number of online retailers will overnight beautiful and heavily decorated chocolate covered strawberries straight to your door.

Chocolate covered strawberries should be refrigerated, but be warned that they do not keep particularly well. Ideally they should be bought, or made, the day you plan to serve them.

Chocolate covered strawberries can be the ideal romantic treat, dessert or gift. They are light and luscious and, without any doubt, are a treat. Choose a reputable candy shop, or buy your own chocolate dipping supplies, and you’ll ensure good quality chocolate covered strawberries for your special night.

Need to say Thanks to someone for something they did for you?

Whenever someone does something nice for me, I like to show my gratitude with unique Thank You gift baskets. I always create the baskets myself, filling them with things that I know the person likes. There are lots of thank you gift baskets out there for sale that are pre-made, but I think the personal touch you can give yourself sets a homemade basket apart from the rest.

This summer I made two thank you gift baskets for people who have done some very cool things for me and my family. My next door neighbor has a six-year-old son and she is always bringing over his old toys so that my younger son can play with them. Some of the toys are expensive, like the wooden puzzles and the children’s keyboard, and I wanted to thank her for her generosity.

Since her kid has everything his heart desires it is impossible to go out and buy him a toy. He already owns everything and he doesn’t need more toys to clutter the house when he doesn’t even play with half of what he already has. So I decided to create one of my thank you gift baskets for the woman who has been so sweet to my son.

The only thing I know about the woman as far as hobbies go is that she likes to drink. She drinks a lot and is always talking about the new cocktails she comes up with in her kitchen. I figured that one of those thank you gift baskets filled with coffee or tea or sweets wouldn’t be the way to go with her.

So I made her a custom gift basket filled with booze and presented it to her. The bonus was that she made pomegranate martinis that night using the vodka from her basket, and invited my husband and I over to drink them with her.

All sorts of Gifts, Wine Gifts, Baskets and more from GiftTree - including baskets for any occasion and baskets filled with chocolates and other goodies.

In our world of excess where everyone usually already owns the things they like, thank you gift baskets are the perfect way to let someone know you appreciate them without buying them a silly trinket they may not like. I’ve created thank you gift baskets filled with booze, stuffed animals and coffee products, depending on the recipient’s taste.

The only small problem with baskets as a gift is that they can sometimes get pricey if you go overboard, but just like with any other gift, your imagination is the best resource when it comes to figuring out how to fill a gift basket.

The first time I had a chance to try the George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill was when I went to a cookout at a friend’s house a couple weeks ago. Although I’d heard a lot about this product, I’d never actually seen it in action before, nor had I ever eaten anything that was grilled on it. I was anxious to hear my friend’s impression of the George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill and to find out whether or not she would recommend purchasing it.

The whole reason I was interested in the George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill in the first place was that I had recently moved into a new condominium complex. According to the homeowner’s agreement that I signed, I wasn’t allowed to use a charcoal or gas BBQ unit for cookouts. Since I absolutely love grilled food, I was in desperate need of an alternative that would allow me to enjoy the delicious burgers, steaks, and kebobs that I craved. From numerous reviews I had read, the George Foreman Grill sounded like the perfect solution.

As soon as I arrived at the party, I told my friend that I wanted to learn as much about her George Foreman Grill as possible. She said that was no problem and invited me to watch her use it from beginning to end. The first thing she had to do was plug in the unit and let it heat up. In less than 10 minutes, my friend was ready to start grilling up the first batch of burgers and hot dogs. I was amazed that the Foreman Grill was able to heat up so quickly. I guess I had just gotten used to waiting the 20 or 30 minutes (or more) required for conventional grills to heat up.

Like other grills from the same company, the George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill is specially designed to allow fat and grease to drip down into a receptacle away from the cooking food. This feature of course helps make the food a tad bit healthier, and is one of the major selling points of the George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill. The real test for me, however, would be in how the food tasted. After one bite of the freshly grilled hamburger, I was sold. I decided there and then that I would purchase a George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill for myself.

I’ve only had my George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill for a few days, but I’ve already used it several times. I absolutely love it and am very excited about the prospect of being able to use it in my kitchen so that I can enjoy my favorite foods even in inclement weather. The George Foreman Indoor Outdoor Grill has been worth every penny so far!
